IAmHere Manual

The use of IAmHere is, hopefully, not hard to work out.  If you have any difficulty, you

Main screen

The main screen that is presented to you when you start IAmHere up looks like this:

Default

The big blue button at the top is the main activity button and is shown here in its inactive state. It is inactive when starting up or when there is no location information available for the iPhone.

The active button looks like this:

BlueButton

Below this button is some informational text.  When no location is available, it will say IAmHere is waitingas above.  When information is available, the text will say how accurate the available location information is.  For example:

Accuracy

If you are using an iPhone, the built-in geo-location facilities will use different methods to try to obtain better accuracy, so you should see the accuracy range decrease over time.

When you are happy with the accuracy, press the blue button.  IAmHere will construct an email to send and take you to the email program.  From there, you can simple send the email.  Optionally, you can add, change, remove recipients and edit the text of the messge.

The email

The email you send will look a little like this:

The text in blue is a URL.  Touching or clicking on it will, in most modern email applications, take the receiver to either a Google maps application or to the default web browser where the Google Maps pages will be opened.
Google Maps will use this information to drop a pin on the sender's location.

Google Maps offers many facilities, such as settelite, terrain and street maps.  If the receiver has geo-location facilities, it will show them where they are, and it can be asked it to give directions to your pin.

Defaults

The main screen of IAmHere allows you to update two default parameters, the default email address, and the default note:

Default email address
If there is an entry for this item, when constructing the email, IAmHere will use this as the recipient.  This is remembered by IAmHere, so, if you want to send several messages to the same person, it will be quicker to enter their email address here.

Touching the detail button next to the place for displaying the address will open a dialogue for you to modify this field.

Default note
If there is an entry here, when constructing the email, IAmHere will substitute any "<note>" text in the template with this entry's contents.  This is remembered by IAmHere, so allows you to easily add a quick note to send along with your location.

Flipside View

The flip side of the main view is accessible by touching the   in the bottom-right of the display.  It looks like this:

There are 3 sections here: 1) the large text rectangle shows a brief manual on how to use IAmHere, 2) at the bottom is a button which will take you to the website of Exploding Orange, the maker of IAmHere, and 3) the "Edit email template" button in the middle.  Pressing it will open a dialogue which allows you to modify the template used to construct the email.

Edit email template
The dialogue looks like this:

Edit email template

The text in the white area contains the factory email template which is used to construct the email to send.  You are free to modify it in any way you like.  Pressing "Save" will save it for use, "Cancel" will discard any changes you have made, and "Reset" will return the text to the factory preset provided with IAmHere.

Edit email template

The dialogue for editing the email template looks like this:

Edit email template

The text in the white area contains the factory email template which is used to construct the email to send.  You are free to modify it in any way you like.  Pressing "Save" will save it for use, "Cancel" will discard any changes you have made.

When constructing the email, IAmHere will substitute special text 'markers' in the template with text that it produces at the time.  At the moment, only two are used:

<mapURL>
This will be replaced by the URL which, when pressed by the receiver, will take them to Google Maps.

<note>
This text in the template will be replaced by the contents of the default note item found on the main view of WhereIAm.

(Please note that, if there is a default note, a heading, "Note" will also be added to the email.)

The <firstname> substitution is not currently available.
